denon-dnp-2000ne-hi-res-audio-streamer
Denon DNP-2000NE Hi-Res Audio Streamer, Black

The Denon DNP-2000NE is a hi-res network player with a quad DAC section that, thanks to its adjustable output, can also be connected directly ahead of a power amp or active speakers as a preamp.

It's more than just a source: Ultra AL32 Processing upsamples music to high resolution, four ESS ES9018K2M converters in mono mode ensure channel separation on separate ground, and via HDMI ARC it even takes over the TV sound – an all-rounder rather than a compromise.

Why the DNP-2000NE?

Because it brings together the roles of streamer, DAC, and preamp in a single device. The analog output can run fixed (2.2 V) or adjustable (up to 4.5 V): fixed, when your own amplifier handles the volume – adjustable, when the DNP-2000NE is meant to go directly ahead of a power amp or active speakers and handle level control itself.

Via the digital inputs (optical, coaxial, USB-B as USB DAC), it also accepts external sources such as a computer or CD transport and converts them through the same high-quality DAC section – handy if you want to use the DNP-2000NE not just as a streamer but also as a standalone D/A converter.

What you hear and get

PCM up to 32-bit/384 kHz and DSD up to 11.2 MHz, HEOS Built-in for multiroom, AirPlay 2, Bluetooth 5.4, and voice control via Alexa, Google Assistant, or Siri. Internet radio, USB storage, and music from your own network server all run entirely without a paid subscription – streaming services are an option, not a must.

Who is the DNP-2000NE suited for? (and who isn't it for)

Ideal for anyone who wants to connect an existing power amp or active speakers to a serious network source with preamp functionality, or is looking for a high-quality add-on DAC for existing digital sources. Bottom line: If you're after a complete integrated amplifier with a built-in power amp, you won't find it here – the DNP-2000NE doesn't drive passive speakers itself; you always need a power amp or active box behind it.

Our verdict

The DNP-2000NE is the kind of device that noticeably upgrades an existing chain without turning it upside down: high-quality converter, serious preamp function, cleanly networked. For anyone who wants streaming without compromise on conversion quality, one of the most honest options in the Denon lineup.

What the trade press says: "Because the sound of the DNP-2000NE is outstanding." – LowBeats, September 26, 2023, overall rating 4.4 out of 5, "Very good".

Technical data

Type: hi-res network player with HEOS Built-in, usable as a streaming preamp

D/A converter: 4× ESS ES9018K2M (mono mode), Ultra AL32 Processing

Supported formats: PCM up to 32-bit/384 kHz, DSD up to 11.2 MHz, FLAC/WAV/ALAC up to 192/24, MP3/WMA/AAC (lossy)

Output level: 1× RCA analog, switchable fixed (2.2 V) or adjustable (up to 4.5 V)

Headphone output: available, 6.3 mm jack, 150 mW/32 Ω, 3 gain stages

Digital inputs: 1× optical, 1× coaxial, 1× USB-B (USB DAC for computer), 1× HDMI ARC

Digital output: 1× coaxial (0.5 Vp-p, 75 Ω)

Other connections: 1× USB-A (front, storage devices), 1× Ethernet

Network/streaming: HEOS Built-in, Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n/ac, 2.4/5 GHz), Bluetooth 5.4

Total harmonic distortion (THD): 0.0008% (24-bit)

Dynamic range: 118 dB (PCM)

Dimensions (W × H × D): 434 × 107 × 374 mm

Weight: 9.7 kg

Power consumption: 38 W (operation), 0.2–2.1 W (standby, depending on network mode)

Color: black

Frequently asked questions

Can I connect the DNP-2000NE directly to a power amp?
Yes.
