canton-puro-90-standlautsprecher-nussbaum
Canton Puro 90 Floorstanding Speaker, Walnut (Pair)

The Canton Puro 90 is a passive 2½-way floorstanding speaker in which five aluminium drivers work invisibly behind a closed column front.

Walnut is the warmest of the five finishes and the only one with a wood look. It takes the coolness out of the technical shape and suits living spaces where wood already features – parquet, sideboard, dining table. The dimensions stay the same: 14 centimetres wide, 105 high, 10 deep, on a die-cast aluminium foot.

Why the Puro 90?

Because it brings together two things that usually go separate ways: a shape that doesn't disturb the living room, and a driver line-up you can take seriously. A 25 mm aluminium tweeter, two 106 mm midrange drivers, two 106 mm woofers – spread across a baffle barely a hand's width wide. The price for that isn't a loss in sound, just less diaphragm area than a classic floorstanding box.

What you hear

A warm but never muffled sound picture with clearly legible mids and bass reaching down to 40 Hz. Acoustic guitar, jazz trio, singer-songwriter – the Puro 90 is made for exactly that. With larger-scale music, it stays organised instead of losing clarity as the volume rises.

Who is the Puro 90 suited to?

For furnished living spaces where a box in black plastic veneer would look out of place. Straight talk: anyone looking for a pure home cinema front for large rooms with level as the main criterion will find more headroom in Canton's wider series. The Puro 90 is a music speaker that's also good with films – not the other way round.

Our verdict

The walnut variant is our recommendation for anyone who doesn't want to hide their hi-fi, but doesn't want to put it on display either. Visually warm, acoustically grown-up, technically uncomplicated – and passive, which keeps it upgradeable for years.

Technical data

Principle: passive floorstanding speaker, 2½-way bass reflex

Drivers: 1× 25 mm tweeter (aluminium), 2× 106 mm midrange drivers (aluminium), 2× 106 mm woofers (aluminium)

Frequency range: 40–30,000 Hz

Crossover frequencies: 400 / 3,300 Hz

Nominal/music power handling: 90 / 150 watts

Impedance: 4–8 ohms

Sensitivity (2.83 V / 1 m): 87.5 dB

Connection: Easy-Link terminal

Bass reflex port: forward-facing, in the lower part of the enclosure

Foot: die-cast aluminium

Network/streaming/Bluetooth: none (passive speaker)

Finish: Walnut (Canton item no. 04691)

Dimensions (W × H × D): 14 × 105 × 10 cm

Weight: 9.3 kg each

What's included: 2 floorstanding speakers (pair)

Frequently asked questions

Is the Canton Puro 90 passive?

Yes. The Puro 90 has no built-in power amp and no network or Bluetooth function. It's connected to an amplifier that supplies power and sources. That keeps the system open: electronics can be swapped later, the speakers stay.

How does the Puro 90 sound compared to a wider floorstanding box?

It draws finer and more spatially, because the narrow baffle produces fewer edge reflections. What it lacks compared to significantly larger models is a bit of deep-bass volume. In normal living spaces that barely matters, in very large rooms it does.

Which speakers work as rears with the Puro 90?

The compact Puro 30 from the same series. It shares the design language and sound character, can also be wall-mounted, and forms a coherent multi-channel setup with the Puro 90 as the front.

Do I need to use spikes or coasters?

The die-cast aluminium foot already stands securely on most floors. On very soft carpet or sensitive parquet, coasters can be worthwhile. We quickly work out in conversation which option suits your floor – that saves scratches and wobbling.

Why buy the Canton Puro 90 in Walnut from HD Zürisee?

Because a wood look works differently in the room than on a screen, and advice helps with that.
