canton-movie-400-5-1-heimkinosystem-schwarz
Canton Movie 400 5.1 Home Cinema System, Black

The Canton Movie 400 is a 5.1 speaker set made up of four larger satellites, a centre, and an active subwoofer, delivering more soundstage and depth than the more compact Movie 200.

Same idea, bigger cabinets: the satellites grow from 12 to 29 centimetres in height, pulling more bass out of the enclosure themselves before the subwoofer even kicks in. Here too: the satellites and centre are passive, so an amplifier or AV receiver is essential – for example Canton's own Smart Amp 5.1.

Why the Canton Movie 400?

Because a few extra centimetres of cabinet height bring an audibly stronger foundation. The slimmer but taller satellites (11 × 29 × 12 cm) already carry the sound more solidly than the small Movie 200 boxes, the centre shares the same build height, and the active subwoofer continues to handle everything below 150 Hz. For rooms that can take a bit more level and substance, this is the logical step up.

What you get

4 identical, taller satellites for front and surround

1 centre speaker for dialogue

1 active subwoofer for the bass

Wall bracket for the satellites

Who is the Movie 400 for?

For anyone who wants a full-fledged 5.1 set without large floorstanding or bookshelf speakers in the living room. Plain talk: here too you definitely need an amplifier – the satellites deliver more bass than the Movie 200, but they still play no sound at all without an amplifier stage. If you already own an AV receiver and are just looking for the speakers, this is the right choice; if you want to play it safe, order the set and amp together.

Our verdict

The sensible middle ground between discreet and serious: unobtrusive satellites that still do more than pure entry-level boxes, and a subwoofer that handles the rest. At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil we check with you whether your existing receiver is sufficient or whether switching to the Smart Amp is worthwhile.

Technical data

Type: 5.1 speaker set, 4 satellites + centre passive, 1 subwoofer active

Satellites: 4× each 11 × 29 × 12 cm (W × H × D)

Centre: 1× 29 × 11 × 12 cm (W × H × D)

Subwoofer: 1× active, 24 × 43 × 40 cm (W × H × D)

Frequency response satellites/centre: 90–25,000 Hz

Frequency response subwoofer: 33–150 Hz

Crossover frequency: 3,500 Hz fixed (satellites/centre); 65–150 Hz adjustable (subwoofer)

Nominal impedance: 4–8 Ω

Sensitivity (2.83 V/1 m): 86 dB

Finish: black

Total weight: 19.3 kg

Sales unit: 1 system (4 satellites, 1 centre, 1 subwoofer) – the price applies to the complete set

Important: satellites and centre are passive and require an external amplifier or AV receiver (e.g. Canton Smart Amp 5.1)

Scope of delivery: 4 satellites, 1 centre, 1 active subwoofer, wall bracket, instruction manual

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference to the Canton Movie 200?

Mainly the satellites: on the Movie 400 they're noticeably larger at 29 instead of 12 centimetres in height, carry more cone area, and so play with more bass of their own and higher levels. The centre and subwoofer connection are conceptually the same, and total weight is correspondingly higher at 19.3 kg.

Do I need an additional amplifier?

Yes, essentially. Only the subwoofer is active; the four satellites and the centre need an AV receiver or Canton's Smart Amp 5.1. Without that piece, half the set stays silent – tell us what you already own and we'll clarify that beforehand.

What room size is the Movie 400 sufficient for?

For small to medium living rooms, roughly up to 30 square metres, the set plays with headroom to spare. In open, very large floor plans, it's worth talking about larger floorstanding speakers up front – we'll tell you that honestly, rather than sell you a set that's too small.

Can I mount the satellites on the wall?

Yes, the matching wall bracket is included. The slim, tall 11 × 29 × 12 centimetre design suits both wall mounting and placement on a shelf or sideboard.

Why buy the Canton Movie 400 from HD Zürisee?

Because the choice between Movie 200, Movie 400, and the matching amplifier depends on your room – and that's exactly what we've been advising on from hands-on practice for decades.
