sangean-u4-dbt-plus-baustellenradio
Sangean U4 DBT+ Worksite Radio with DAB+, IP65

The Sangean U4 DBT+ is a worksite radio with DAB+, FM-RDS and Bluetooth, built for rough daily use with IP65 protection and a protective roll cage.

Water, dust and the occasional fall off a ladder come with the job. The U4 DBT+ shrugs it off and keeps playing, with a 6½-inch speaker that beats workshop noise without you having to shout at the radio.

Why the U4 DBT+?

Because it brings what counts on the job: DAB+ and FM with RDS and station presets, Bluetooth with NFC pairing and aptX decoding, an AUX input and USB playback. A smart charger charges inserted rechargeable cells individually, and the USB port tops up your phone on the side. It runs from the mains adapter or on six D cells.

What you hear

Strong, direct sound: 7 watts on mains power, 4 watts on batteries, plus treble and bass controls, EQ and loudness. The backlit LCD shows time, station and battery level, and the alarm with two wake-up times, snooze and sleep timer works in the garage too.

Who is the U4 DBT+ for?

For anyone who needs a radio that tolerates dust, splashes and rough handling: building site, workshop, garden, camping. Plainly put: at almost five kilos it is no pocket radio and not meant as a living-room hi-fi. If you want a built-in battery and more power, look at the U4X.

Our verdict

The U4 DBT+ is an honest workhorse: tough, loud enough, with modern digital radio technology. Rain and splashes are no problem. Do not submerge it, as IP65 does not mean immersion-proof. The roll cage also absorbs knocks.

Does the U4 DBT+ run on batteries or mains?

Both. It runs from the 12 V mains adapter or on six D cells. On batteries the output is 4 watts, a little lower than the 7 watts on mains. A smart charger charges inserted rechargeable cells individually.

Do I need a subscription for digital radio?

No. You receive DAB+ and FM without a subscription. Bluetooth, AUX and USB playback are extra ways to play your own music. None of it is compulsory, and the radio works perfectly well without a phone.

Can I charge my phone from the U4 DBT+?

Yes. The USB-A port delivers 5 volts and 1 ampere. That is enough to top up a smartphone, although it is not meant for fast charging. Handy when no mains socket is free on site.

What is the difference between the U4 DBT+ and the U4X?

The U4X has a built-in lithium battery, 12 + 12 watts on mains, a dual voice coil speaker and TWS to pair two units for stereo. The U4 DBT+ works with D cells and 7 watts, and costs less.

Why buy the Sangean U4 DBT+ from HD Zürisee?

Because you get more than a box from us, you get a conversation: we honestly advise you whether the Sangean U4 DBT+ suits your use.
