sangean-ddr-66bt-internetradio-cd-walnut
Sangean DDR-66BT Internet Radio with CD, Walnut

The Sangean DDR-66BT is an internet radio music system in a walnut wooden cabinet that combines DAB+, FM, web radio, CD, USB, SD card and Bluetooth in one stereo unit.

Sangean calls it the flagship of its all-in-one family – and the wood makes the difference: where other compact systems look like they came from an electronics superstore, this is a piece of furniture that happens to play radio.

Why the DDR-66BT?

Because it has more sources under one roof than most living rooms will ever need: DAB+, FM, internet radio with stations from around the world, CD, USB stick, SD card and Bluetooth with aptX. Spotify is built in, but optional – the unit is just as enjoyable without any subscription. And if you want to record radio programmes, you can save them to SD or USB.

The acoustically tuned wooden cabinet is not decoration but sound engineering: it damps resonances and gives voices and instruments warmth.

What you hear

Two 3-inch drivers with 7 watts each from a Class-D amplifier play genuine stereo – not the mono suggestion you know from many kitchen radios. Treble is clean, voices are natural and the bass is decent for the format. With bass and treble controls and six sound profiles (Flat, Jazz, Rock, Classic, Pop, News) plus a custom EQ, you adapt the sound to your room and taste.

A word about the CD: here it keeps spinning without regret. The display shows station, track and information, and with the UNDOK app you operate the unit conveniently from the sofa.

Who is the DDR-66BT for?

For anyone looking for a handsome, full-featured music system for the living room, dining room or office who prefers wood to plastic. Plain talk: with 7 watts per channel you fill a room, not a ballroom – and if you later want floorstanding speakers and separate components, you are better off starting with an integrated amplifier and a streamer. As a stand-alone unit, however, the DDR-66BT is hard to beat.

Our verdict

A high-quality-looking all-in-one for radio, CD and streaming that looks like furniture and sounds like music. At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil we advise you on placement, room and suitable alternatives.

Technical data

Type: Internet radio music system with CD player, wooden cabinet (walnut)

Tuner: DAB+, FM (RDS), internet radio (Wi-Fi, LAN)

Streaming: Spotify and further services (optional, via UNDOK app)

Bluetooth: with aptX, NFC, A2DP/AVRCP

Media: CD (audio, MP3, WMA), USB, SD card, AUX-in

Recording: Recording to SD card or USB

Speakers: 2 × 3 inch, stereo, Class-D, 8 ohms

Output power: 2 × 7 W

Sound: Bass/treble controls, EQ profiles (Flat, Jazz, Rock, Classic, Pop, News) and custom EQ

Connections: AUX-in, line-out, headphones, USB, SD, LAN, F-antenna

Output level: Line-out available; the manufacturer does not state a level

Headphone output: yes (headphone jack, 3 mW × 2)

Clock/alarm: Clock, alarm, snooze and sleep timer

Power supply: AC 100–240 V

Dimensions (W×H×D): 356 × 121.5 × 252 mm

Weight: 4.1 kg

In the box: Power cord, remote control

Frequently asked questions

Does the Sangean DDR-66BT play CDs?

Yes. The unit has a CD drive for audio CDs and MP3/WMA files. It also plays music from a USB stick and SD card, and radio programmes can be recorded to SD or USB. So your CD collection stays usable without giving up streaming and radio.

Do I need a subscription for internet radio and streaming?

No. Internet radio, DAB+ and FM work without a subscription, as do CD, USB, SD and Bluetooth. You can add services such as Spotify if you have an account anyway – it is not a requirement but an extension for your listening pleasure.

How good does the wooden cabinet sound?

The acoustically tuned walnut cabinet calms resonances and gives voices and instruments warmth. With two 3-inch drivers of 7 watts each, the unit plays cleanly in small to medium rooms; bass and treble controls adjust the sound further.

Why buy the Sangean DDR-66BT at HD Zürisee?

Because we tell you honestly whether an all-in-one like this suits your room or whether a small system would give you more joy.
