The top plate consists of two steel plates with a layer of bitumen in between, the base plate of thick steel. Four aligned holes in the top plate turn speaker and stand into a mechanical unit, instead of simply sitting one on top of the other. A sideboard reliably turns a very good monitor into a mediocre one. Third-party stands around 55 centimetres also work according to Epos, but skip the fixed bolted connection. For other stand-mount speakers, the stand is only a partial fit, since its height and bolt pattern are calculated for the ES-14N. The column is a solid laminated wood beam of four glued layers rather than a hollow tube. Damping comes from the wood, the glue, and the bitumen layer in the top plate. The stand measures 515 millimetres, the ES-14N is 491 millimetres tall, and the tweeter sits in the upper part of the baffle. Spikes concentrate the entire weight onto tiny areas and would otherwise leave pressure marks on parquet or laminate.
