cantoncd250-3si
Canton CD 250.3 Center Speaker, Silver (Single)

The Canton CD 250.3 is a flat 2½-way center speaker made of aluminum that takes over dialogue in home cinema and finds room under or above the TV.

For clarification: at Canton, CD is short for Custom Design and denotes the flat wall series – it has nothing to do with a CD player. In silver anodized aluminum, the 43 cm wide center looks light and technical at the same time, matching devices in an aluminum look. With 10 cm of build depth it barely stands out, wall mount and stand are included. In short: a speaker that stands out without imposing itself.

Why the Canton CD 250.3?

Three drivers share the work: a 110 mm aluminum woofer, a 110 mm aluminum midrange driver and a 25 mm aluminum tweeter dome. The 2½-way design crosses over at 400 and 3,500 Hz – so the second woofer only supports the lower range, while voice reproduction is left to a single driver. That's exactly what keeps dialogue clear and free of coloration.

And since most of the sound in a film runs through the center, this speaker decides whether you listen relaxed or keep having to readjust. An underrated channel – until you take it seriously.

What you get

Flat aluminum housing, silver anodized, 43 × 14 × 10 cm

2½-way closed: 110 mm woofer + 110 mm midrange + 25 mm tweeter

Frequency response 45–30,000 Hz, efficiency 87 dB

Power handling 70 W (nominal) / 130 W (music)

Wall mount and stand included

Removable grille front cover

Tonally matched to the Canton CD series

Who is the Canton CD 250.3 suitable for?

Plain talk: For anyone who wants a slim home cinema where you understand every word – without a bulky box under the TV. Paired with the other models in the CD series, you get the most cohesive sound picture. Anyone who listens purely in stereo, on the other hand, needs no center at all and invests the budget better in the front speakers. The CD 250.3 only shows what it can do in a multi-channel setup.

Our verdict

Solidly built, honestly tuned, pleasantly unobtrusive – exactly the right qualities for the dialogue channel. For your info from Wädenswil: Canton now keeps the CD series in its archive, HD Zürisee is clearing the remaining stock while it lasts. We're happy to discuss with you which front and rear speakers really suit it.

Technical data

Type: Center speaker

Series: Canton CD (Custom Design)

Acoustic principle: 2½-way closed

Passive radiator: Bass reflex

Woofer: 1× 110 mm aluminum

Midrange driver: 1× 110 mm aluminum

Tweeter: 1× 25 mm aluminum

Frequency response: 45–30,000 Hz

Crossover frequencies: 400 / 3,500 Hz

Efficiency: 87 dB (2.83 V / 1 m)

Nominal/music power handling: 70 W / 130 W

Nominal impedance: 4–8 Ω

Connection terminal: Speaker cable clamps

Material: Aluminum housing, silver anodized

Front cover: Grille, removable

Wall mounting: Prepared, mount included

Dimensions (W×H×D): 43.0 × 14.0 × 10.0 cm

Weight: 3.5 kg

Manufacturer's warranty: 5 years

Scope of delivery: CD 250.3, wall mount, stand, instruction manual

Frequently asked questions

Does CD on the Canton CD 250.3 mean it plays discs?

No. At Canton, the designation CD stands for Custom Design and refers to the series' flat construction. The CD 250.3 is a passive center speaker that gets its signal from the AV receiver. There's no transport, disc tray, or playback function included.

What does a dedicated center speaker do for home cinema?

It handles the dialogue and anchors voices exactly where the picture is. Most of the film's soundtrack runs through the center, so it has a correspondingly strong effect on speech intelligibility – much stronger than an additional effects channel on the side.

What are the dimensions of the Canton CD 250.3?

43 cm wide, 14 cm high, 10 cm deep, weighing 3.5 kg. That lets it fit under most TVs or on a sideboard. Stand and wall mount are part of the delivery, so you can place it or mount it above the screen.

Can the Canton CD 250.3 be combined with other brands?

Technically yes, tonally with some care. It's most coherent within the Canton CD series, since tuning and tonal character are then identical. In mixed setups, the front speakers should at least be similarly tuned – we'll tell you honestly what fits and what you'd better avoid.

Do I get the Canton CD 250.3 individually?

Yes, the center is sold individually – after all, you need exactly one in a multi-channel setup. Wall mount, stand and manual are included. Apart from a suitable speaker cable, you don't need to get anything else. For the complete set, combine it with front and rear speakers from the same series.

Why buy the Canton CD 250.3 from HD Zürisee?

Because we know from many home cinema installations what matters for the dialogue channel: placement, height, distance, level matching.
